Gavalav creates works embodying the emotional, spiritual, and ethereal energies beyond the conformed identities of our perception, journeying into the transcendental.
An entrepreneur during the day, the Delhi born Gavin Kochar has educational background in
cosmetic sciences. He channels his love for chemical experimentations, blended with his creative spirit, to create art. Rather than producing imagery that is traditionally appealing, he focuses on creating art that challenges the conventional form, while bringing the role of the artist and societal perceptions into the mix. With time it has evolved into representing edicts of irrationalism, spontaneity, artistic freedom and emotional reaction. He does this by combining inspirations from his idolised masters like Francis Bacon, FN Souza, Basquiat; along with his impasto technique, to create works that can be described as an infusion of Cubism & Neo-Expressionism.
Ultimately, Gavalav's work aims at stripping away the layers of falsehoods that people have
internalized—be they about their bodies, their roles, or their minds—and exposing the human condition in its raw, deconstructed form. It’s an intense and confrontational exploration of identity, conformity, and the complexities of the human experience.
His body of work is a form of existential deconstruction, where the norms and illusions of society
are dismantled to reveal the absurdity, alienation, or emptiness of these constructs. This process of deconstruction from the "inside out" can be seen as an invitation to reclaim authenticity or, conversely, a critique of the impossible ideals of authenticity itself
